DHR honors Sandersville residents for humanitarianism

ATLANTA (GA) – The Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) will honor the Family Independence Unit of Sandersville, Georgia at the 2007 Public Employee Recognition Week Awards Luncheon. The luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. at the Freight Depot located at 65 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, in Atlanta, Georgia. DHR’s Commissioner, as well as the Executive Management Team will present the awards.
"Family Independence Unit of Sandersville is an admirable representation of compassion and teamwork at its best," said Division of Family and Children’s Services Director Mary Dean Harvey. "Our employees are the backbone of our organization, and we are proud to recognize these individuals for their acts of humanitarianism."
The Family Independence Unit of Sandersville consists of Terrie Hall, Gwinnie Hatcher, Beth Lindsey, Penny Pittman, and Patricia Yates . These individuals of the Washington County Division of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS) have dedicated themselves to offering extended services to a poverty stricken family of 3 who suffer from severe obesity and all its related health problems (diabetes, heart disease, edema, HBP, depression, etc). The Family Independence Unit helped this family begin the process of gaining and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The Georgia Public Employee Recognition Week was re-instituted in 2001 in an effort to recognize the outstanding accomplishments and commitment of state of Georgia employees . It is administered under the leadership of the Georgia Merit System, in conjunction with state agencies and departments. The success of Georgia government is dependent upon the efforts of its dedicated and committed employees. To honor and recognize state employees for their unique and diverse achievements, innovative ideas and dedicated service, various events will be held throughout the week of May 7-11, 2007 at the state and agency level.
