SNAP Works Program
Georgia SNAP Employment & Training (E&T) Program
SNAP Works is a voluntary program for most SNAP recipients.
This Employment & Training program provides SNAP recipients with opportunities to gain skills, training and/or experience that will improve their ability to attain employment.
SNAP Works participants include able-bodied adults, single parents, families, refugees, senior citizens and some individuals with disabilities.
SNAP Works Program Activities
Georgia’s SNAP Works Program offers supervised job search, job skills training, GED, vocational training for specific jobs and work experience (a short-term unpaid work assignment) through partnerships with community-based organizations and educational institutions.
Support Services
SNAP Works participants may receive work support services which may include transportation, childcare and other services. These funds are available for necessities required for participation in an approved and assigned educational or training activity.
The SNAP Works Program Goals
The SNAP Works Program’s goal is to help all SNAP recipients who are unemployed or underemployed with getting a job that eliminates their dependency on SNAP. Training opportunities are in a variety of fields from health care and manufacturing, to teaching and welding. The program’s success is measured by helping Georgia families get the skills, training and work experience they need to build lives that are not reliant on public assistance programs.
iWORC
The Interagency Workforce Opportunities Resource Committee (iWORC) is a SNAP Employment and Training (E&T) initiative created by the Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) for workforce development programs to do the following:
- Improve employment and training service delivery across Georgia
- Collaborate with organizations to provide services to low-income citizens
- Work in partnership internally to share participant engagement methodologies
Initially, iWORC was only a collaboration between DFCS and the Department of Human Services (DHS). However, we quickly learned that there were gaps in services with programs statewide. As a result, the committee decided to add other programs and organizations to ensure that steps were being taken to bridge gaps in services and to ensure collaboration of program information is consistently shared statewide.
The ultimate goal of the committee is to bring similar organizations together to discuss program updates, strategize ways to maximize services and assist Georgians in having less reliance on any public assistance program.
If you are interested in joining the iWORC committee, please send an email to [email protected] stating your interest in this committee.
