PeachCare for Kids
PeachCare for Kids (PCK) is Georgia’s State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) that provides low-cost health care coverage to children up to age 18. The program is administered by the Georgia Department of Community Health.
Effective July 2004, there is no premium for a qualifying child under the age of 6. However, the fee for one qualifying child over 6 can range from $10 to $35 per month depending upon family size and income. The premium to cover two or more qualifying children range from $15 to $70 per month depending upon family size and income.
Applicants will receive a letter in the mail notifying them of their status (i.e. denied or approved).
When an applicant sends their application to the PCK program, their application is assessed for possible Medicaid eligibility. If the applicant is potentially eligible for Medicaid, their application will be sent to the RSM Outreach Project for assessment because a person who is eligible for Medicaid is ineligible for PeachCare for Kids. The applicant will be notified by letter of his or her eligibility status.
If the PCK applicant is determined eligible for Medicaid, the RSM specialist will enroll the applicant in Medicaid instead of denying health care coverage altogether.
